PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT OUR NEWLY RENOVATED COMMUNITY CENTRE IS NOW OPEN AND WE ARE TAKING BOOKINGS.
Welcome to the website for the South Golden Beach Community Centre which is managed by a volunteer committee under Council delegation. This S355 management committee consists of community members and a councillor representative who are responsible for the management of the hall's facilities and functions.
Our community centre is a lovely hall, ideally located on the corner of Pacific Esplanade and Helen Street in South Golden Beach in the North of Byron Shire. The hall is a pleasant airy space, newly painted with a polished wooden floor and a new kitchen. Large covered decks are a great extension to entertaining areas.
Adjacent to the beach it is a great space for family events and children's parties as well as adult birthday parties, classes, workshops or seminars.
SGB Hall Compliance Upgrade and Renovations
Byron Shire Council has allocated funds for the compliance upgrade and proposed renovations and additions for SGB Community Centre. We are pleased to announce that the building works commenced in the second week of February 2015. The renovations and refurbishment include the addition of decks on the eastern and northern sides, new foyer, kitchen upgrade, office space upstairs, new cladding and new bathrooms.
These improvements have now been completed. They greatly enhance the hall especially for special events such as weddings and parties. The increased capacity of the hall is for 80 persons.
We are thrilled to advise that South Golden Beach Community Association (formerly known as South Golden Beach Progress Association) and our volunteer hall management committee secured funding for the completion of a dedicated car parking area in the front of the hall grounds plus picnic furniture, barbecue and landscaping for the hall grounds.
The barbecue and furniture have now been installed. This infrastructure has been welcomed wholeheartedly by residents who will finally have a recreational area in South Golden Beach where they can meet friends, picnic or just find a shady spot to sit, read and have a coffee.
The construction of the car park commenced on the 22nd June and was completed in August 2011.
In 2012 SGBCA volunteers with the assistance of Bush Futures staff at BSC created two native gardens in the hall grounds. In time these plants will become a welcome shady sanctuary from the summer sun.
